The United States, China and Japan are tops with five total medals, though USA and Japan each have just one gold and China has none.

The United States had a strong Saturday in the swimming pool, winning three medals. All were silver: the women's team in the 4x100m relay race (won by Australia), Chase Kalisz in the men's 400m individual medley (won by Japan's Kosuke Hagino) and Maya DiRado in the women's 400m IM (won by Hungary's Katinka Hosszu). The American swimmers didn't enter any of those races as the favorites, and they had good swims to earn their silvers.

The only American gold medal so far comes from the 10m air rifle. West Virginia University freshman Virginia Thrasher put the United States on the board with a close win against China's Du Li. Here's the video of Thrasher's win:
